Defenders of the Faith: a new season?

Updated: Mar 15

Queen Elizabeth II, former Queen of the United Kingdom, sadly died on 8 September 2022. According to sources her reign of 70 years and 214 days is the longest of any British monarch and the second longest verified reign of any monarch of a sovereign state in history.

In the grand scheme of things a new era was born during the reign of the late Queen Elizabeth II. We saw many Nations gain independence in her time, significant peace was made and the creation of the Commonwealth was established. As seen with challenges around the Nigeria-Biafra civil war, or "The Troubles" between Britain and Ireland, it was never perfect. However, a post colonial and World War II world needed balance and the late Queen attempted this.

Picture: The late Queen Elizabeth II dancing with Francis Kwame Nkrumah (21 September 1909 – 27 April 1972). Francis was a Ghanaian politician, political theorist, and revolutionary. He served as Prime Minister of the Gold Coast from 1952 until 1957, when it gained independence from Britain.

Will Africa (Ethiopia) take the mantle?

Ethiopia, millenniums old as a Nation and the only African country not colonised, with the special case of modern Liberia, had a well known leader called Haile Selassie as pictured above with the late Queen Elizabeth II. His vision was many things; but chief amongst this was to also unite Africa, a man who feared the Lord Yeshua. Is his vision still alive today?

The current state of affairs in Ethiopia is indeed sad to see (Civil unrest); but a more peaceful, God fearing and promising future for her and wider Africa still remains. Psalm 68:31 says; "Ethiopia will soon stretch out her hands to God." Could 'Ethiopia' be defined to be the wider African continent? I am led to believe so.
