A new season for Africa and Israel: What happens when one blesses Israel?

In recent years, Israel has been entering into stronger diplomatic relations with African nations. A development I believe is actually linked to biblical prophecy in Pslams 68:31. However, what is the significance of this for both Africa and Israel?

“I will bless those who bless you”

Numbers‬ ‭24‬:‭1‬, ‭9 states, “And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 9.He couched, he lay down as a lion, And as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, And cursed is he that curseth thee.” Similarly, Genesis 12:3 states, "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you". These verses indicate Adonai’s promise to Abraham, the father of many nations today and Jacob (Israel), the descendent of Abraham, the founding father of the nation of Israel. The promise that those who bless Israel, shall be blessed too.

Significance for Africa

Essentially, I believe African nations can find favour, from Adonai, for entering into partnerships with Israel. Whether this be initiated through Political Diplomacy, Commercial or Non-profit Ventures, Entertainment, Agriculture, Technology, Healthcare and more. Any one individual, entity or Nation state can benefit from working with Israel.

Africa, a continent once termed desolate or economically trailing behind other continents will enter a new era working with Israel. The rise of the billion dollar Artificial Intelligence (Ai) industry will aid this event. Israel is certainly a leading nation in the field of Technology, Ai being one of their strengths. Combine this with Israel’s additional expertise in both Agriculture or Medicine and African nations will certainly benefit.

Significance for Israel

Since this article was originally posted on 16 October 2023, post the October 7 Hamas attacks, staunch European allies-of-old are effectively turning their backs on the nation of Israel amidst the global rise of antisemitism, the like not seen for many decades. Even the United States is seeing higher numbers of hate against its Jewish diaspora.

However, Europes rejection can open new doors for new allies. New friends. New International partnerships. Israel should continue to grow their relations with African nations and in the same breath resume development on the Abraham Accords for stronger Middle East partnerships.
